Join Alexa’s Hope in celebrating National Donor Sabbath this November 15-17, a time for people of all faiths to honor those who have given the life-saving gift of organ, eye and tissue donation. Every year during this special time, donation and transplant organizations work closely with communities of faith to bring the life-saving message of donation to congregations across the country.
Faith plays a significant role in the decision to register as a donor. All major religions support organ, eye and tissue donation, and believe it to be a final act of kindness and generosity. People of all faiths and denominations are encouraged to register as donors. There is a very special and unique opportunity to do so this Saturday, November 23rd (see details below).
Here are some shocking facts about Donation and Transplants:
- On average, a single tissue donor can save or heal the lives of up to 50 people.
- On average, 142 people are added to the nation’s organ transplant waiting list each day – one every 10 minutes.
- Of the more than 120,000 people that are currently waiting for an organ transplant in the U.S., over 600 of them are 5 years old or younger.
- A living donor can provide a kidney or a portion of their liver, lung, pancreas or intestine to someone in need.
- More than 28,000 patients began new lives in 2012 thanks to organ transplants.
- Approximately 77 organ transplants take place every day in the United States.
- Sadly, an average of 18 patients die every day while awaiting a lifesaving transplant.
- Over 46,000 patients had their sight restored last year through cornea transplants.

Details of the #GivetoLive Challenge
To get involved, please help Alexa’s Hope spread awareness and plan to register on November 23 at our upcoming #GivetoLive Challenge, an official attempt to break the GUINNESS World Record of the most people to sign up as organ donors in an 8 hour period of time. The event will take place at the Fargo Air Museum, Fargo Coliseum and FargoDome from 9 am-5 pm.
